Toast to Bob Gray on 6 Jan 1999

Bob Gray was assasinated on the 6th of January, 1978. Twenty one years ago to the day. For many, if not all of us, this has been the first real opportunity to gather and tell Bob in our own ways how we feel and what he and his death meant to us.
The following individuals were in attendance at the "Cops Cove" Chat room for this event:
Bob Denniston, Steve Gambert, Marc Hodgdon, Marty Jones, Bill Louk, Dave McCuen, Monty & Cathy Moore, Steve Myers, Mark Parrish, Yvonne Perez, Kevin Viator and Tommie Williams

Special thanks is accorded to Monty and Cathy Moore for recording these minutes

Bob Gray It was 21 years ago tonight. It still seems like yesterday. Bob was one of us. He was our comrade, and more importantly one of us.
I remember how empty I felt when my kennel master at the time MSGT Summerlin told me. I still feel that way.
As I make this toast tonight I think of Gumby, Vince Daniels and the others who swept the open east side all night looking for the killers. I think of Dale Warke, who refused to come in from the field for two days and who received an Article 15 for leaving a priority post.
When I developed this site in September the only real, concrete idea I had was a long overdue dedication to my lost comrade and friend. The site has been up for over three months now and a lot of handlers (and members of Bob's family) have rediscovered and learned about one another again.
It may have been my fingers and a great deal of help from all of you, but Bob my friend, it's been you, and you alone who's responsible for reaquainting us.
Raise your glasses everyone. Thank you my friend. Here's to you.
Hodge

Bill Louk:
You gave the ultimate sacrifice. I remember the anger working the bomb dump and wanting to get out there and help find that guy. My M-16 locked and loaded wanting to use it on him.
HERE'S TO YOU

Monty & Cathy Moore:
God's light shone brighter when He called Bob home. Tonight, 2 decades later, we still haven't forgotten him. We honor his memory & recall the integrity of a good K-9 cop taken too soon.
You are always w/us, Bob Gray!

Marty Jones:
To you, Bob

Steve Myers:
To a fallen comrade; your light will never extinquish in our hearts you will always be remembered. God bless til our paths cross again. Take care with the Great Spirit.

(Yvonne) Spike-Perez:
I remember the good times we had from the moment we met in Dog School..you always knew how to keep me smiling... I loved you as brother, friend..and Partner..and you will always be in my heart...We will reunite once again...

Marty Jones:
Hodge, you have done a good thing here. Bringing us back to what I feel were the best days of our lives

Marc Hodgdon:
We have all done a good thing here Marty...This is a long way from being just me
