Hey
Marc,
I was going over the Clark homepage again and
when I went to dogs names mine wasn't there. I had to go over to
Okinawa and train this dog and I got a problem dog named Sarge. I
don't remember his ear number over the years but the sob was very
flare shy.
Every time I slapped a flare the dog would cower between my legs. I
remember he was about 100 lbs of dog with a very big head and a mean
disposition.
He had a habit of biting through his muzzle and would lunge at anyone
within arms reach of him. He bit a "truder" in Mabalacat one
night and when we were loading the prisoner on the truck Sarge nailed
one of our training NCOs.
This was late 75 and shortly after that we caught a group of
intruders coming off the flight line carrying a bunch of alert
aircraft spare parts. That catch was right near the weather station.
That night Sarge stopped a "truder" in his tracks just by
being there.
The guy didn't want to get bit by a dog that big. But Sarge cowered
again when we set off slap flares to get backup.
Sarge was put down later and I was assigned to help with an
experimental Wharehouse dog program that didn't work out too well.
My memory of all the
guys by name is totally shot. But I can remember the fun I had. The
growing up I had to do. And the long nights humping those damn
washouts or whatever.
When I want to be young
again I just go back to the web site and bingo I'm back in the best
time of my life! Thanks for the site and let me know of the summer
plans for the reunion. I want to try to make this one if possible. The
last one fell on the days School start here and I could not get away
from the meetings.
Anyway, add my dog to the list. He's still at Clark which puts a
piece of me there too.
"Big"
John Ideus K-9 74-75.
